What is NVH?
While assessing quality of a modern vehicle, attention is paid to its vibroacoustic (NVH) characteristics in the firstplace.
High level of noise (N) and vibrations (V) as well as harsh (non-smooth) motion (H) cause both driver’s andpassengers’ discomfort, decrease customers loyalty towards this or that brand, deprive the auto manufacturers of the important competitive advantages.
Extraneous noises, creaks, and other unpleasant sounds in the car interior are caused by too tight contact of theplastic and rubber components, as a rule.
Acoustic noises are the result of engine’s vibration energy amplification which is transferred through carsuspension, body, and the seat in the interior.
When these annoying factors have minimized, it improves vehicle comfort level, that’s why so called NVH-controltest is included into the vehicle trials.
Methods to control NVH characteristics
It is possible to manage NVH characteristics by means of...
- Isolating the components, that is as much separation of one element from another as possible
- Fixing the components that make noise
- Damping, that is absorbing vibrations and oscillation by various methods
- Preventing stick-slip motions of the component due to reducing the difference between the values of the friction of rest coefficient and the sliding friction coefficient
Friction management is one of the easiest and most effective way to stabilize NVH parameters. It intends using specialty materials such as lubricants and coatings that enable to reduce friction force between mating components.
The anti-friction coatings have revealed the most efficiency in the area of stabilizing NVH characteristics.
What is Anti-Friction Solid-Film Coatings (ASC)?
Anti-Friction Solid-Film Coatings (ASCs) are similar with paints, however, instead of the dying pigment theycontain the particles of the solid lubricating substances are spread evenly in the mixture binding resins and solvents.

The coating forms a thin composite layer on the parts which levels the micro-irregularities, and increases thereference surface area. In such a way, the contact substrates sliding improves, the dry friction coefficient reduces down to the values of just a few hundredths.

MODENGY 1012 coating to eliminate squeak in the car interior
To reduce friction and eliminate squeak of the car interior components made of plastic, elastomers, leather MODENGY 1012 Anti-Friction Solid-Film Coating is used.
Unlike the conventional grease that can be used for these purposes, the dry coating causes no dust sticking on thesurfaces, and besides, it requires no regular re-lubricating from time to time, which is very effective, convenient, and economically profitable.
The most common zones where MODENGY 1012 is used are the following ones.
MODENGY 1012 coating contains superfine-grained PTFE which allows it to provide the lowest frictioncoefficient possible, and to prevent effectively stick-slip motion of the parts.
Use of MODENGY 1012 contributes to smooth operation of the mechanisms, eliminates squeaks, noises, and vibrations, in such a way improving the vehicle comfort level.
The coating is resistant to washing off with water, and has wide enough service temperature range (-50...+170 °C).
The water base and absence of solvents in its composition make MODENGY 1012 compatible with allconstructive materials. The coating has no colour, so it doesn't impact the appearance of interior elements.
MODENGY 1012 coating cures fast at room temperature: tack-free dry state is observed in 5 minutes afterapplying already, and full polymerization is achieved in 20 minutes.
It is easy to handle with the coating with simple tools (brushes, sponges, paint spray guns), and requires nospecial skills from a car owner.
