Import substitution in area of lubricating materials. Achievements of the Modengy company
The company’s first experience on import substitution as a part of the state assignment has become testing the coatings in the laboratory of the Tribology Institute of Mechanics Issues named by A. Ishlinsky with support of the Defense Ministry, and the Science and Higher Education Ministry of Russia where these materials from the Modengy showed ones of the best results.
As information about new Russian coatings were spreading, a number of the enterprises making their choice in favour of the domestic materials, and replacing the imported compounds they used before by them kept growing.
In 2022 the import substitution policy has a new development turn, and demand for the goods by Russian production including lubricating materials has significantly increased.
As a result, the Modengy company has opened the new direction on making lubricating materials.
The products range has enlarged by adaptive dry lubricating materials, thread pastes, and antiscoring pastes.
The company has presented a new service, that is ‘Designing and selecting an analogue of a lubricating material’. It is directed to support the domestic enterprises that have found out under conditions of shortage of the imported products.
As a part of this service, according to target specification from the oil-and-gas area enterprises, one of the first import substitution products was developed. And it has become MODENGY 4002 antiscoring paste created as a replacement for the compound of foreign production that left Russian market.
MODENGY 4002 is a new Russian antiscorting paste
MODENGY 4002 is a concentrated paste based on highly dispersed molybdenum disulfide. It is intended for assembly, running-in, and lubrication. The solid lubricating substances in composition of this product make more than 30%.
This paste has the following properties and advantages:
- High antiscoring properties and load carrying capacity
- Low friction coefficient (0.05 to 0.08 in a steel-to-steel friction pair, according to ASTM G99 standard)
- Wide service temperature range (-30 to +450 °С, up to +600 °С at limited air access)
- Resistance to washing off by water
- Good adhesion
- Capacity to prevent stick
- Consistency Class 2 according to NLGI
- Grey-and-black colour
MODENGY 4002 concentrated antiscoring paste is intended to make mounting and dismantling of the press fits and threaded connections easier, for running-in, preventing fretting-corrosion, corrosion protection, friction reduction in heavily loaded units, lubrication of friction pairs made of constructive materials inclined to jamming (such as stainless steel).
This paste has found its application in splined joints and threaded connections, press fits, bearings and sliding guideways, lead screws, gearings, cam mechanisms, and other heavy-loaded slow-speed units.

This paste is available for purchasing in 0.8 KG Cans, and 4 KG Pails. In the future this products will be also released in 520 ML Aerosol Cans.
Instruction on how to use MODENGY 4002 in cans and pails:
- Clean and degrease the surfaces to be lubricated by using MODENGY Metal Cleaner
- Stir the content of the container thoroughly up to a homogeneous state as oil separation on the paste surface is acceptable at storage
- Apply the paste in a thin layer by rubbing-in motions by using a brush, a rag, or a soft spatula
This antiscoring paste has passed a number of tests under laboratory conditions including measuring friction coefficient in the steel-to-steel pair, and detecting penetration.
