MODENGY 1001 is a solid-film coating for friction units of the pipeline valves, and equipment

Introduction

High contact pressures and temperatures are the standard operational conditions for the pipeline fitting friction units. This causes constrictions of use of the conventional lubricating materials since they are squeezed out of the contact points, and lose their properties completely at above +250 °С already.

The issue of protecting the elements at designing and producing of which high-alloy steels and alloys with high content of chrome related to the group of stainless ones are used arises especially acute is. While operating of the performing mechanism of the pipeline fitting with the parts of such materials, increased friction followed by heating and plastic deformation are observed.

MODENGY solutions for the pipeline fitting units

MODENGY anti-friction solid-film coatings (AFSFCs) realize the solid lubrication technology.

This compounds are suspensions of solid lubricating materials evenly distributed in binders and solvents.

A thin composite film that is formed on the parts after the coating get cured is a polymer matrix. It firmly holds the solid lubricating materials highly-dispersed particles in its cells.

Use of the AFSFC technology enables to manage friction, extend service lifetime, and to improve energy efficiency of the items, completely abandon liquid lubricating materials and greases by creating a friction unit that requires no maintenance.

MODENGY 1001 anti-friction solid-film coating is widely used in the friction units of pipeline fittings (see Fig.1).

It is a composite material based on molybdenum disulfide, graphite, and a non-organic binder. This product is used in the units with metal-to-metal friction pairs. The solid lubricating materials give the coating grey-and-black colour, and mate texture.

The conventional liquid lubricants and greases have a comparatively narrow service temperatures range, and significant load constrictions. MODENGY 1001, unlike them, retains its functions even under extreme conditions.

MODENGY 1001 creates a thin film that eliminates danger of direct contact between the metal surfaces of the pipeline fitting. This provides smooth, trouble-free equipment operating for a long while.

The composite layer with the great antiscuffing properties keeps a high load-carrying capacity even under extreme specific loads, excludes incidental failures in the used units.

MODENGY 1001 application examples

MODENGY 1001 anti-friction solid-film coating developed by the Modengy company successfully prevents jamming of the units with the parts made even of stainless steels. It stabilizes friction, and excludes scuffing forming at screwing together and unscrewing. This product is applied onto the fasteners (see Fig.2), pipe connections of the oil-and-gas equipment (see Fig. 5), and other components.

MODENGY 1001 also enables to reduce and stabilize the opening and closing moments of the thermal power-station locking valves (see Fig.3). It retains efficiency under high temperatures conditions, at contact pressures up to 2,500 MPa, and demonstrates low friction coefficient (up to 0.03 at slow sliding at up to 0.5 m/s).

The widely-spread task for the industrial enterprises is fixing scuffing and damages of the pipeline fitting lead screws. MODENGY 1001 forms a dry lubricating film on the parts surface that no dust and other abrasive particles stick on (see Fig.4). This coating enables to reduce and stabilize friction coefficient significantly, to do motion smoother, and to extend the service lifetime of the transmission considerably in general.

Use of MODENGY 1001 on clutches and nipples of the drilling pipes (see Fig.5) enables to prevent galling and scuffing at their screwing together and unscrewing, to reduce friction of the contacting surfaces.

The feature of the fittings made of stainless steel is unstable and high friction coefficient. MODENGY 1001 forms a thin separating film on the thread surface that stabilizes friction effectively solving the issue of galling and jamming (see Fig.6).

Properties of MODENGY 1001 coating

MODENGY 1001 coating demonstrates the following properties and advantages:

  • Wide service temperature range: -180 °С to +440 °С
  • High load-carrying capacity up to 2,500 MPa
  • Excellent antiscuffing properties
  • Ability to effectively reduce friction coefficient down to 0.03
  • Ability to prevent stick-slip motion
  • Operability under conditions of vacuum and radiation
  • Stabilizing of screwing torque of the threaded connections
  • Efficiency in the dusted environments due to the dry lubrication technology
  • Fast polymerizing at room temperature (within 15 minutes)
  • Small layer thickness (10 to 20 µm) hardly impacts the initial accuracy of the parts dimensions

This agent in an aerosol package is especially easy to apply, it requires no additional technical equipment, and any extra expenses.

Because of absence of evaporation or oxidation, MODENGY 1001 remains effective even after long downtime of the unit.

MODENGY 1001 provides contact surfaces lubrication for the entire service period of the units, that is provides its lifetime lubrication.

Conclusion

The solid lubrication technology is more effective alternative of the conventional lubricating agents that don’t meet the requirements related to the operational modes of the pipeline fittings and equipment. MODENGY 1001 anti-friction solid-film coating creates a thin film on the mated parts that excludes danger of direct contact between the metal surfaces, and solves the issue of jamming, galling, scuffing forming, premature failure of the elements. It provides the required complex of the tribotechnical properties to the elements to keep their operability under extreme conditions.
