Restoring throttle valve coating. MODENGY Kit to clean throttle valve, and to apply the coating

Purpose and principle of operation of a throttle valve

The throttle valve unit is one of the constituent components of the gasoline internal-combustion engine inlet systems.

It consists of a body, throttle valve, branch pipes connecting the mechanism with the other car power unit systems, a throttle valve position sensor, and a blank cycle control.

Throttle valve

Function of the throttle valve unit is to inlet air into the motor to create air-fuel mixture.

The valve is the part in charge of inletting or blocking the flow of air. It is a round plate able to turn by 90 degrees.

While its closing (perpendicular position relative to the body), pressure in the system reduces, and air feeding into the engine gets blocked. To provide idle run operating of the power unit a blank cycle control is used.

When accelerator is being pressed down the throttle valve connected with it with a system of cables and rods is opening at a certain angle increasing air feed to create air-fuel mixture. Motor revolutions, and motion speed of the vehicle grow.

This is how a mechanical throttle valve functions. The structure of an electronic valve unit is a bit more complicated, however, its functions and principle of operating are the same.

Throttle operational problems

Motor functioning stability, fuel consumption level, and other car features depend on proper operation of the throttle valve unit.

The basic issue that car users face after operating their vehicles for a long while is inletting excess air through the throttle valve.

This can occur by two basic reasons.

Firstly, some particles contaminate the throttle valve get onto it from the side of the inlet manifold.

Because of forming deposits, the throttle valve cannot close completely in those moments when the gas pedal is not pressed down. As a result excess volume of air get into the system, revolutions start ‘floating’, the air-fuel mixture gets depleted, the engine doesn’t run stable.

Secondly, as a result of friction between the mated parts of the throttle unit, namely the valve edges and the body edges while opening / closing of the mechanism, a gap forms on the parts.

This gap is where excess air gets through into the system, and interferes proper operating of the vehicle.

At some producer factories, a special anti-friction coating (mainly based on molybdenum disulfide) is applied onto the throttle valve surfaces mated with the body of the throttle.

It forms a dry lubricating layer on the surfaces to be treated which reduces friction and wear of the contacting elements, prevents jamming, extends term of emergency-free operating of the mechanism.

However, after long operating of the throttle valve the anti-friction coating applied at the producer factory get damaged. Also, removal of the factory coating often occurs at careless cleaning the throttle from contaminations (dark-grey layer of the protective material is often mistakably taken as carbon deposit, and is removed by mechanical methods). Abrasion of the mated surfaces is a consequence of this.

Restoring throttle valve by using MODENGY products

Experts recommend to restore the throttle valve each 50,000 kilometers of running. There is no need to do this more often without visible signs of improper run of the unit.

To repair the throttle valve, it requires to dismantle the parts, that is to take them out from under the hood by disconnecting them carefully from the other elements.

The MODENGY kit to clean throttle valve and to apply coating help make the works on restoring operability of the throttle valve considerably easier.

MODENGY Kit for throttle valve cleaning and coating applying

It contains the products that are required to repair the throttle valve by your own such as is aerosol cans with a cleaner, and an anti-friction coating based on molybdenum disulfide, gloves, an application instructions booklet.

The tasks that the MODENGY throttle kit solves

MODENGY Cleaner for throttle valves:

  • It removes most of contaminations in a quality way
  • It prepares the parts surface to following coating applying

MODENGY coating for throttle valves based on molybdenum disulfide:

  • It improves smooth going of the throttle, and its sensibility
  • It improves tightness in closed position due to gap filling
  • It excludes risk of parts jamming
  • It minimizes abrasion of the mated surfaces
  • It serves as a replacement of the worn factory coating
  • It reduces quantity of deposits on the elements

This coating forms a dry wear-resistant layer of grey-and-black colour on the prepared surface of the throttle valve that needs no refreshing for the entire service lifetime of the throttle unit provided it was applied properly. This agent is resistant to abrasion.

Application instructions

On the first stage of the works on restoring throttle valve functionality it is necessary to clean the parts by using the MODENGY Cleaner for throttle valves.

MODENGY Kit for throttle valve cleaning and coating applyingTo do so, the aerosol can should be shaken, and its content should be applied by spraying method. To remove complicated contaminations, it might need to wipe the surface with a rag.

Apply the cleaner until complete removal of residues and carbon deposits. The clean throttle valve need getting dry for 10 minutes to let the agent evaporate. Avoid touching the treated surfaces.

Before using the anti-friction coating, the aerosol can should be thoroughly stirred. To do so, the container should be kept shaking for at least 3 minutes after tapping sound of the small metal balls appears.

The product is sprayed onto a dry prepared surface of the throttle from the distance of 20 to 30 centimeters by an even thin layer. It is recommended to do a test applying on the draft surface first.

It is necessary to clean the nozzle of the spraying head of the can after the coating has been applied. To do so you should turn the container upside down, and press the spraying head till the moment pure gas starts coming out of the nozzle.

The coating requires heating to get cured. The product gets dry room temperature within at least 30 minutes.

After the layer has got cured, it is necessary to check operability of the throttle valve. If applying has been done properly, the part moves smoothly without seizures, and there is no visible gap between the throttle valve and the body.

At doing all these operations you should protect hands against the agents to get onto your skin by using gloves! They are included into the MODENGY kit.
