The graphite coating for elastomer bands of the windshield wipers of cars, aircrafts, trains, and other vehicles is being designed at the Modengy’s laboratory.
This development is a flexible coating for rubber capable to withstand elastomer material deformation. It is made on the base of water jointly with the rubber type elastomers, it has excellent adhesion to them, is resistant to temperature variations, and to exposure to windshield washing liquids.
Use of these graphite coatings on the windshield wiper bands enables to reduce friction in the rubber-to-glass pairs, to exclude stick-slip motion of the brushes to occur caused by unstable friction coefficient, to improve cleaning capacity of the rubber elements, and to extend their service lifetime.
Graphite belongs to the solid lubricating materials group, it is optimal to be used for operating within humid environment since water molecules are adsorbed by the graphite flakes and in this way providing easy relative sliding, and low friction coefficient. That is why this material was chosen as the basis for the coating for the windshield wipers operating under conditions of atmospheric precipitation.
This coating is been designed taking into account technical requirement from several customers at once to be used on the stage of making windshield wipers, so applying it will be included into the equipment mass production cycle.
