One of the relevant tasks for the manufacturers of the automotive components is giving up of using greases in spherical joints.
At press-fitting a ball pin into a case, a grease-like lubricating material is conventionally put in, however, in process of operating it is squeezed out, leaks out of the contact point, gets contaminated when wholeness of the dust cap is broken, and loses its operability.
As a result, high friction occurs between the parts causing wear of the polymer bushing of the spherical joint, and appears beating, jamming. Under such conditions, the unit fails fast.
One of the most effective alternatives for greases is applying an anti-friction coating onto the basic part of the spherical joint, that is the ball pin.
For the purpose of reducing friction between the ball pin and the bushing made of polyoxymethylene by using the anti-friction solid-film coatings, the manufacturer of the spherical joints addressed to the Modengy company.
Several MODENGY coatings were applied onto the ball pins including the new experimental versions of the materials.
MODENGY anti-friction solid-film coatings serve to reduce friction coefficient in the metal-to-polymer pair providing smooth movement, forming optimal micro shapes of the surfaces, and to achieve the longest possible service lifetime for the spherical joints.
This coating also provides corrosion protection, prevents jamming, causes no sticking of dust and other small particles.
In process of operating, the coating applied onto the ball pin is running-in to the bushing made of polyoxymethylene, due to what stable low friction coefficient in the unit lasts for a long while.
These coatings have high load-carrying capacity and wear resistance, don’t shift off the point of application even at high loads, don’t evaporate, nor require renewing.
Due to using these coatings, service lifetime of the polymer bearing extends, smoothness of the parts movements is provided, and need in maintenance of the spherical joint is excluded because the solid-film materials remain efficient for the entire service lifetime of the parts.
