As a part of The Polycomtrib-2022 Conference, The Efficiency of Solid-Film Coatings Application in the Metal-to-Polymer Friction Pairs report was presented. It was spoken by Mr. Maxim I. Prudnikov, the Modengy company’s General Director, the Candidate of Technical Sciences, who was assigned as the Chairman of the Tribology Section at the event.
It was remarked in the message that anti-friction solid-film coatings application makes practical interest in metal-to-polymer friction pairs where they become substitute for greases, and extend service lifetime of the parts.
‘Testing efficiency of the solid-film coatings in the 40X steel-to-polyoxymethylene (POM) friction pair were held at the Modengy’s Engineering Center, at the initiative of several domestic manufacturing plants producing spherical joints for car vehicles. The bushings of the joints are made of POM. The laboratory tests were held according to ASTM G99 standard on the ‘sphere-to-flat’ scheme on the special tribometer,‘ - Mr. Prudnikov told about the MODENGY coatings tests.
The speaker remarked that, according to the tests results, it was determined that friction and wear of the samples after coatings application reduced significantly in comparison with use of a standard grease. So, friction coefficient had reduced down to 2.2 time, and wear had down to 8.9 times.
The best results in reducing friction and wear were demonstrated by the coatings made on basis of polytetrafluorethylene (PTFE), or MoS2 + PTFE.
