The flange fastener for marine oil platforms must have high operational properties, long service lifetime, be easy to dismantle while inspecting the units, or when emergencies occur.

To make connections dismantling easier, to stabilize torsion coefficient at tightening, and to prevent corrosion, protective coatings based on polytetrafluorethylene (PTFE) are applied onto the flange fasteners.

They have long service lifetime, however, they can sometimes lose their anti-corrosive properties as a result of the protective layer damage caused by careless mounting, transportation rules break, etc.

Under conditions of marine climate corrosion can penetrate through mechanical damages, and spread under the coating.

Taking these facts into account, the Modengy company has developed a special coatings system with preliminary application of a primer layer, and following applying MODENGY 1014 anti-friction solid-film product. Such system is widely used to protect fasteners operated under conditions of aggressive media.

The intermediate primer layer increases adhesion of the coating, and improves anti-corrosive properties. This complex solution remains effective even in case of its mechanical damage.

The new MODENGY coatings system provides longterm protection of the flange fastener of the pipeline fitting operated on the offshore oil-extracting platforms.

In comparison with other products, MODENGY coatings protective system has the following basic advantages:

  • Providing even tightening due to friction coefficient reduction and stabilization
  • Protecting against sticking, making mounting and dismantling easier
  • Preventing contact corrosion
  • Elastic coating get adapted while screwing off retaining protective properties even after multiple mounting/dismantling cycles

Applying the coating system onto the flange fasteners and other parts of the equipment is handled at the Modengy’s Engineering Center in Bryansk town.
