Mandrel is a work member of a labeller: it is what a thermocontractable label sleeve is sliding along while being put on a bottle. The line keeps running virtually non-stop, broaching goes on at a high rate: up to 60,000 labels per 24 hours.
Continuous dry friction of plastic along metal causes appearing worn spots even on the parts made of expensive specific alloys. The damaged surface starts catching the sleeve, label jams and stalls the line.
The operators have to stop the conveyor and to set the sleeve straight manually. As a result, label defects and working time lost are on the rise.
In order to provide continuous running of the packing line, and to prevent the label sleeves from wrinkling, MODENGY 1026 coating is applied onto the mandrels.
After getting cured it forms a dry anti-friction layer with low friction coefficient and high load carrying capacity on the metal which reduces resistance of the thermo-sleeve. The coating takes and absorbs wear, and extends service lifetime of the mandrel manyfold.
MODENGY 1026 cures at room temperature (+20 °С). It is possible to refresh the layer by means of the technical service of the enterprise right within the workshop as its applying is combined with the forced stops of the line to wash the product tanks, therefore, this procedure is easily integrated into the current maintenance regulations, no additional downtimes of the equipment are required.
For a month of operating in continuous mode at maximum load, this coating has demonstrated stable functioning without a single label jamming. At average load of 40,000 labels per 24 hours, service lifetime of the layer before its scheduled refreshing makes at least 1, 200, 000 cycles of broaching.
This solution is applicable at any production with high-speed ‘plastic-to-metal’ friction pairs such as the bottlers, and the lines for labeling into a shrink-wrap film (drinks, household chemicals, beauty products) as well as the conveyor systems where plastic containers and packages must smoothly slide along the guideways, gravity slides, and feed trays.
Application of MODENGY 1026 helps exclude off-schedule stops of the line and manual adjustment of the sleeve, decrease the number of defective items, and keep marketable state of the products as the dry layer neither collects dust nor leaves any traces on a bottle or a label.
