The age gimlets are used to detect the age of the trees according to the year rings number, to control the state of the wooden components of the construction structures, to check if there any damages, and how deep the impregnants have penetrated into the wood.
These tools consist of four parts, that is a holder, a drill, a handle, and an extractor.
The holder is a hollow pipe on one of the ends of which a cutting tool is set – a drill.
The holder with the drill is fixed to the handle, and after that it is entered into the tree’s body or a wooden item at the angle of 90 degrees.
As soon as the cutting tool reaches a required depth, an extractor, a device to extract the wood sample (a kern), is entered into the hollow part of the handle. To separate and to extract the kern, the gimlet is turned unwise the clock, then the drill is taken out of the wood, and the sample is sent to be analyzed.
To provide easy gimlet entering into the wood, an anti-friction coating, based on Teflon as a rule, is applied onto the holder surface.
In the product line of the Modengy company, there are two coatings that fit in an optimal way for treating the gimlet holder, they are MODENGY 1014 and MODENGY 1009 containing polytetrafluorethylene in their composition.
These coatings effectively reduce friction, make the process of taking a sample easier, as well as protect the metal surface of the tool against corrosion.
These products are applied out of
Use of MODENGY anti-friction solid-film coatings enables to make the process of taking out a sample of wood easier, and to extend operation term of the tools.
